TrackJet System Boosts Airport Safety, Cuts Runway Maintenance Costs Weigel Hochdrucktechnik will showcase its popular TrackJet Rubber and Paint Removal System at inter airport 2009 scheduled for October 6 to 9, 2009 in Munich, Germany. This standard-setting technology not only removes rubber and paint markings on runways, taxiways and aprons, it also cleans an airport’s AGL during the rubber removal process, a feature that is endearing TrackJet to an ever-increasing number of runway maintenance responsibles.

TrackJet is an ultra-high-pressure precision water jet system that uses an innovative computer-controlled nozzle system to remove nearly 100% of rubber residue or paint from runways and roads without damaging the macro- or micro- texture of the underlying surface. The environmentally friendly system has a very low consumption of potable water without using any chemical additives. It immediately suctions residual water from the treated surface, leaving runways and roads immediately ready to accept aircraft and other traffic.

Weigel has given the TrackJet a modular design that supports easy configuration of the system for any or all of the following applications:

  • Rubber removal at up to 860 m²/hr; applicability on all kind of surfaces such as asphalt, AntiSkid, petro-grip, concrete grooved or non-grooved
  • Line and paint marking removal
  • Apron cleaning
  • Oil and fuel spillage removal
  • Cleaning of maintenance areas
  • AGL cleaning

When used in applications like these, TrackJet increases airport safety and lowers airport maintenance costs, two advantages that have made TrackJet the system of choice for dozens of airports worldwide. In addition to cleaning runway and other airport surfaces completely of rubber and paint, TrackJet’s ability to retexture surfaces also plays a key role in improving landing safety for aircraft. All told, the system improves post-cleaning runway friction values up to 0.7 / 0.9, a level that clearly translates to safer runways for passengers, pilots and airline companies.

TrackJet’s ability to reduce airport maintenance costs is yet another key selling point that is sure to make an impression on fairgoers later this year at inter airport 2009. TrackJet technology not only removes nearly 100% of rubber and paint, it does so without damaging a runway’s surface texture or pattern of grooves. Because the technology is thorough but also runway-friendly, it reduces cleaning 'intervals and prolongs the lifetime of runway surfaces by 50 %.

More than 40 European airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Turino, Munich and Lisbon, have purchased the TrackJet system or taken advantage of Weigel’s contracting service. Recent purchasers include Geneva International Airport and five airports in India: Bangalore International, Chennai International, Delhi International Airport, Hyderabad Airport and Kolkata International.
