Accurate placement of a uniform, contiguous coating layer is another key benefit of the AccuCoat® Heated Spray System. Instead of applying coatings in “always on” mode, the AccuCoat® system precisely applies coatings only as needed by automatically cycling spray nozzles on and off. Low pressure spraying minimizes misting, overspray and bounce-back.Spraying Systems Deutschland GmbH, an expert in spray technology, is back from a successful appearance at Anuga Foodtec 2009, the international trade fair for food and drink technology held in Cologne, Germany, during March. Despite the general economic downturn, the Anuga balance sheet showed roughly 34,000 trade visitors from 114 countries, a result comparable to that of the previous installment of the fair. Always eager to rub shoulders with a savvy international crowd, Spraying Systems says Anuga fairgoers showed a high level of interest in the company’s AccuCoat® Heated Spray System, giving the innovative solution high marks.

Such high levels of interest reflect an industry’s need for innovative solutions and this is particularly true of the food industry, which faces a variety of challenging coating operations. Top ping the list of challenges is the need to accurately apply thick, viscous coatings like chocolate, oil, butter or other ingredients that are either solid or liquid at room temperature. The application process for these coatings is particularly challenging because even minor temperature fluctuations can ruin a production run, lead to the scrapping of entire batches, and result in an unrecoverable loss of valuable production time.

Until now, solutions based ontraditional coating methods like enrobing and panning have proven to be imprecise, messy and difficult to adapt to different products. The Accu-Coat® Heated Spray System eliminates these problems by offering a fully automated spraying systems that leverages key benefits to help improve quality, increase production time and lower operating costs.

Headlining the list of benefits is precision temperature control. The AccuCoat® Heated Spray System uses a sophisticated closed-loop temperature control system that leverages several key components to en sure that the spray media remains liquefied all the way from the tank to its ultimate target.

The AccuCoat® Heated Spray System uses a sophisticated closed-loop temperature control system that leverages several key components to ensure that the spray media remains liquefied all the way from the tank to its ultimate target.Pivotal to the closed-loop temperature control system is the AutoJet® Spray Controller, which monitors multiple temperature sensors in the hot water circuit surrounding the liquid lines and automatically adjusts and maintains the desired temperature. The liquid lines and spray nozzles used in the AccuCoat® Heated Spray System are fully jacketed and airlines can also be heated to ensure even coating flow without burning through the system. This eliminates waste and production downtime caused by coatings that are either too hot or too cold.

Accurate placement of a uniform, contiguous coating layer is another key benefit of the AccuCoat® Heated Spray System. Instead of applying coatings in “always on” mode, the AccuCoat® system precisely applies coatings only as needed by automatically cycling spray nozzles on and off. Once again, the system’s sophisticated controller ensures that the proper volume of spray is dispensed at precisely that instant when the target is in the spray zone.

Users also benefit from the decision by Spraying Systems to use low pressure spraying in the AccuCoat® Heated Spray System. Unlike high-pressure systems, low pressure spraying minimizes misting, overspray and bounce-back, which in turn reduces excessive cleanup costs and waste. Reducing waste slashes maintenance time and labor costs while simultaneously boosting production uptime.

Finally, as a fully automated spraying system, AccuCoat® Heated Spray System gives users the additional benefit of maximized throughput. The system automatically adjusts to line speed changes, for example, so that production lines can always operate at peak efficiency. The system also easily adapts to different products. Multiple product profiles and batch modes can be stored and then preset, minimizing changeover times and eliminating the need for operators to make manual spray adjustments.

The versatility of the Accu-Coat® Heated Spray System predestines it for a wide range of challenging coating applications in the food industry. Examples include:

  • Spraying chocolate, sugar slurries and glazes on baked goods
  • Spraying chocolate on ice cream desserts and inside ice cream cones
  • Spraying chocolate on snacks in drum coating applications
  • Spraying oil and butter coatings on bread, crackers and cakes for browning
  • Spraying butter on sandwiches
  • Spraying other food coatings, ingredients and barriers that are solid or viscous at room temperature

The company behind this innovative system, Spraying Systems Deutschland GmbH, is a subsidiary of US based Spraying Systems Co. Founded in 1937 in Chicago, Illinois (USA), the company has grown from its humble beginnings in a small converted garage to a worldwide manufacturer of industrial spray products.

Spraying Systems has 12 manufacturing facilities throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia, allowing to quickly serve customers anywhere in the world.

Spraying Systems technology is by no means limited solely to applications in the food industry. Spray nozzles, spray controllers, a spray analysis and R&D service, and custom fabrication of spray injectors and related equipment make Spray Systems Co. and Spraying Systems Deutschland GmbH critical partners for dozens of industries requiring spray technology and equipment.
