Mecanil Oy Ab, the well-known Finnish supplier of a wide range of equipment to the global forestry industry, has returned from an encouraging outing at Elmia Wood 2009, the world’s biggest international forestry fair. Held from June 3 to 6 in the richly forested region just south of Jönköping, Sweden, Elmia Wood welcomed nearly 47,000 visitors, underscoring the forest industry’s unwavering belief in the future as well as the first green shoots of an economic turnaround.

According to Mecanil, Elmia Wood was widely viewed as a sign of strength for the forest industry, helping to focus the attention of fairgoers on a Mecanil product lineup that ranges from a richly featured array of state-of-the-art grapples to crane scales, ATV equipment, forest trailers and harvesters. Amongst the grapples, the fair’s spotlight fell squarely on Mecanil’s EG-series of energy grapples. Available in several models, the grapples share several common features, including a simple and lightweight design that still leaves them more than robust enough to handle all kinds of wood and fell clearing wood easily and efficiently.

Our photo shows the EG250, a four-claw energy grapple with several different functions. Lightweight but powerful, the grapple has a patented cutting knife that is both highly space efficient and capable of quickly cutting thick tree trunks with a diameter of up to 250 mm. Engineered for easy mounting and independent operation, the EG250 tips the scales at just 285 kilograms (315 kilos with an optional accumulative part). The grapple requires no extra hydraulic lines and has a low oil torrent of only 40-60 l/minute.
