Fuchs MHL 380Sweden’s Intermercato AB once again impressed trade show audiences with its lineup of wireless overload- protected crane scales, this time at Elmia Wood 2009 held from June 3 to 6 in Jönköping, Sweden. In addition to their overload protection and long-range, low power wireless capabilities, the cranes feature integrated motion control to provide a complete weight monitoring system for cranes and material handlers at log yards, harbors and related facilities.

Intermercato began developing its wireless crane scale some eight years ago in direct response to a high level of industry dissatisfaction with existing hydraulic scales and tests by the Swedish Forestry Research Institute (SKOGFORSK). The SKOGFORSK tests clearly showed a lack of reliability in conventional hydraulic weighing equipment. Results were shown to vary significantly from driver to driver and also as a function of loading conditions, temperature and other factors. Frequent cable breaks only serve to exacerbate the problems with hydraulic scales. Against this backdrop, Intermercato’s XW wireless crane scales represent a true revolution in dynamic weighing. Wireless operation, e.g., minimizes installation costs and eliminates the problem of cable breaks. The lineup’s specially engineered load cell features overload and torque protection and automatic temperature compensation. The integrated motion controller
guarantees consistent, ultraprecise dynamic weighing.

The crane scales also boast a RTT&E certified radio set that combines extremely low power consumption with outstanding range. All Intermercato scales are available with the versatile and user-friendly Blue scale route order software for Windows Mobile and Blue Office - Lite for Windows XP/Vista.
Our photo shows a Fuchs MHL 380 crane equipped and operating with an XW-series wireless crane scale from Intermercato. While it illustrates one of many forestry-related applications made possible by the XW series, uses are by no means limited to stationary cranes and material handlers. Other noteworthy applications for Intermercato’s crane scales include road transport, off road vehicles, scrap handling and recycling of municipal and industrial waste.
